he borrowed samson’s supersonic hearing.
idk but he finally lives after basically dying so whuteva.
Mitch just threw his arms around ZZ and held him close. He loved the man so much it almost hurt him. Once he was composed he stepped back and looked at him. “Still… kid though, me. That’s pretty bleak.” He said trying to lighten the mood. ZZ out of everyone would know how Mitch would infuse humor to a situation which was tense of emotional.
ZZ hugged him close before releasing him. In every way except for blood, he was his son. And as closely as ZZ would be watching him for a while, he knew how sorry Mitch was. “Yes, it seems like something from a nightmare of mine. A littler version of you running around somewhere in this world. Lord help whoever adopted him.”
Mitch was still uneasy about the mistakes he’d made, the news he’d faced, the problems he had, and while ZZ was away he did his best to make amends. Being friendly to Tatum, helping out Colin and Allen, reading the book for Alison. He felt like he’d fixed things but his…
“I fucked up, ZZ… twice.” Mitch always called ZZ by that name, with the exception being when he’d call ZZ dad. He considered him to be a father, better than Colonel Faline. He had to tell the dean, there was nothing else he could do. Not telling him, keeping it to himself wasn’t working. “It’s bad.” He added looking up at his mentor.
“Come now, it can’t possibly be that horrible. You’re not nearly as much of a screw up as Simon is.” ZZ said jokingly hoping to get a laugh from Mitch. He thought of Mitch as his son having raised him since Mitch was small when Colonel lost interest in them. He had been there for the Faline children when they needed someone, no matter what happened. And he had sworn to help them in any way he could.
Mitch didn’t say anything, he knew Simon was a bit stupid but he never did anything half as bad as Mitch did. He hadn’t thought on what he’d done for a while, but right now, with ZZ back he needed guidance. “Promise you won’t get mad?” He said, as if he was a teenager again. “ZZ… Shay had a baby and didn’t tell me..” He knew that wasn’t all of it, but he’d been hiding that fact for a while. “She gave it up for adoption years ago. I shouldn’t be mad at her, but I am..”
ZZ let out a sigh of relief “Is that all that is worrying you Mitch?” He laughed and reclined slightly in the chair, shaking his head at Mitch. “I gather the child was yours then? Son, as absurd as it sounds, it is not crazy for you to think like that. She most likely had her reasons for not telling you but there is no reason for me to think poorly of you because you feel cheated.”
“Actually that was the good news.” Mitch said forcing a small smile. He knew ZZ would flip at the next part. It didn’t matter, but he had to tell one person nefore he could let it go, then it’d be gone, then it’d be history and he could move on, to do as he pleased. “ZZ, seriously don’t get pissed, and I can’t stress that point enough but like three months ago, I guess… it was around New Years for certain, probably. I… may have had sex with a student.” He then grimaced and closed his eyes flinching in fear.
ZZ froze, no…he must have heard Mitch wrong. ZZ let out a short hysterical laugh “You…slept with a student. You? No…Impossible.” There was absolutely no way Mitch would risk trying something like that. But as Mitch sat, refusing to look him in the eye, he realized he was telling the truth. Emotions flashed quickly through him, anger, sadness, betrayal, remorse, and again anger. ZZ stood from his chair and slams his hands on the desk between them, his voice slowly climbing. “You…YOU! What were you thinking Mitch? Did You suddenly become brain dead while I was gone?! Do you know what the consequences of such a thing are? If this ever got out?!” He started pacing he floor, eyes closed in concentration. “Was she even eighteen Mitch? Your lapse in judgement could cost you your job, possibly even send you to jail! What would happen to your brother and sister then? I’m not going to be around forever to watch out for them…for you.” He sighed sadly and leaned against the desk, staring at Mitch “I am not nearly as young as I used to be Mitch. I’m not going to be around for much longer. And when that day happens, your brother and sister, you’ll be the only thing they have left they can call family.”
“I know… I fucked up.” Mitch said, not raising his voice, it was more a whimper. If Colonel Faline shouted, Mitch would return it louder even. But not ZZ, not his real father. Mitch looked down while he shouted and then when he was done he looked up fleetingly and replied. “I’m sorry, dad. I’m sorry.” He didn’t know what else to say. He had made a mistake, a while ago, yes, but a mistake regardless.
ZZ pinched the bring of his nose “At least tell me you aren’t seeing the girl anymore. Tell me that she won’t seek retribution.” He didn’t want to stay mad at Mitch, he was like ZZ’s son that he had always wanted. He cared about him, watched him grow up, helped him through everything. ZZ just wanted Mitch to be alright.
“No.” Mitch said looking up grimly. “She doesn’t even come to my lessons. I just had to tell someone.” He stood up and walked towards ZZ. He loved that man badly, he’d die for him and to have betrayed him like this, killed Mitch moment by moment. “Where do we go from here?” He said, knowing ZZ would have to fire him for what he did.
ZZ sighed deeply and rubbed his hands over his face. “Nothing….We do nothing. You told me about your previously unknown child, and talked about other things. But in no way did we discuss your…sexual life.” He looked sternly at Mitch. “Do you understand? There is not to be a word of this spoken to anyone else.” ZZ knew he should have reported Mitch, he knew that by hiding this he was risking his own job but he had to protect Mitch. Anyone else would have fed him to the lions, but ZZ couldn’t force himself to if he wanted to.
